Pair spared stand in 'guru' Quinn case

AN investigative reporter and anti-cult crusader have been spared giving evidence in a multi-million dollar case involving controversial businessman and "guru" Tony Quinn.

Citing journalistic privilege, High Court judge Mr Justice Gerard Hogan yesterday ruled that 'Sunday World' reporter Nicola Tallant and Mike Garde, of anti-cult charity Dialogue Ireland, are entitled to protect their sources under the Constitution.

He set aside orders that would have forced them to give evidence to an Irish lawyer.

The case concerns the sale of shares in International Natural Energy (INE) LLC, the holding company of a firm involved in oil exploration in Central America, of which Mr Quinn is a shareholder.
