Ireland drops in ‘religious countries’ survey

Less then half of all Irish people would consider themselves to be religious according to a new global survey.
47 per cent said they had faith – compared to 65 per cent back in 2005.

Deputy Managing Director of Red C research, Sinead Mooney says many Irish people have been questioning their faith in the wake of the abuse scandals in the Catholic Church.

“We’ve gone through quite a period of change from 2005 in terms of what has happened in the church in Ireland. And I think it is interesting to see that even despite that, we still have only 10 percent who consider themselves a “convinced atheist.”
