Cardinal Dolan’s Batman pose

Cardinal Dolan shows off his Batman poseThe Archbishop of New York, who recently launched his very own Twitter page (and a great success it has been), has published a photograph of himself in a peculiar batman-like pose.

The look says prince of the Church with a touch of Batman.

The Archbishop of New York, Timothy Dolan, has posted a picture on his Twitter account, of him with his arms up in the air, his cape waving about behind him, in true batman style.

The photograph was taken a day or so ago, during the inauguration of the academic year at the Catholic University of America in Washington. “Lots of folks have asked me about the cape photo from CUA's commencement. I call it my Batman pose,” Dolan wrote in his tweet.

Dolan the “American pope” who is currently leading a tough battle against President Obama on the issue of same-sex marriages, has let his quirkiness shine through once again.

Despite having launched his account on the popular social network only recently, the cardinal has taken to it like a duck to water, earning himself third place in the list of most followed cardinals, with 7500 followers.

His jokey character and style which is miles a part from the Curial prose used by other clerics will certainly make him stand out on Twitter. This popular form of micro-blogging is being used by American bishops to send out the full texts of their speeches, reflections and official and unofficial declarations.

In an address to students just the other day, the Vatican Secretariat of State, Tarcisio Bertone, urged them not to allow themselves to be influenced by the media and their manipulative ways. He said: “I have never swiped a sword at Bagnasco…”

After Bertone’s manga-like illustration, Dolan seems to have followed suit.
