Black Santa raises record €34,000

The annual Black Santa appeal outside St Ann’s Church on Dawson Street, Dublin, has raised €34,000, a new record for the annual Christmas sit-out.

The Black Santa appeal is so called as it sees a vicar stand outside the church in his long, black winter cape seeking donations, all of which go to charity.

The 2011 event, which marked the 10th year that the appeal has taken place, continued over eight days, concluding on Christmas Eve.

All money raised will be distributed to a number of charities on February 19th.
