Proud day for people of St. Peter's Parish, Drogheda

BISHOP GERARD Clifford feels the elevation of Canon Jim Carroll to Monsignor by Pope Benedict XVI is a 'fitting' tribute to Drogheda's role in the peace process.

He was speaking at Saturday's special mass to celebrate a proud moment for the St Peter's Parish Priest, who was surrounded by friends and family in the congregation.

'It is a great for this honour to come to Drogheda again due to the continuous devotion to St Oliver Plunkett and since he came that devotion has become a great part of Mon Carroll's focus,' the bishop stated.

'The prayer movement for peace in Northern Ireland, involving people like Tommy Burns, has been one of the great achievements of our time.'

The concelebrated mass was described as a privilege by the new monsignor who welcomed two of his siblings Mary and Michael and nieces and nephews, adding ' they say they are delighted to have a monsignor in the family!'

He remarked that he was 'excited, but not too excited as you might be getting worried about me'.

He felt the honour was a tribute to the ' heroes' working in the community.
