Catholic newspaper for Southwark

A newspaper for the diocese of Southwark, in south London, was launched this past weekend.

The Pilgrim will be published monthly and sold in every Catholic church in south London and Kent.

It will also be available online soon.

In the first edition, former gangster John Pridmore writes about the importance of learning to forgive yourself and Father David Gibbons explains why the words of the Mass have changed.

Other articles include how a new DVD series is aiming to bring the saints alive and how drama is being used in schools to explore moral issues.

Archbishop Peter Smith said: "I hope The Pilgrim will help to improve communications within and between parishes.  It will also in time be a means of developing catechesis so that we all become more knowledgeable about our Catholic faith and the teaching of the Church. I hope that every family in the parish will buy a copy, and then perhaps pass it on to others who do not come regularly to church."

Editor Greg Watts said: "There’s lots of really good stuff going on in parishes and schools in south London and Kent.  But often we never hear about it. The paper is going to tell some of these good news stories."
