Nottingham Sunday parking charges in force

Sunday parking charges have come in to force in Nottingham city centre.

The city council has also extended on-street car parking charges to 20:00 GMT in the evenings during the week.

The Dean of Nottingham's Catholic cathedral had said the charges would force some of its congregation to worship elsewhere.

But the city council said that in response to the criticism of the Sunday charging it had introduced a cheaper tariff for churchgoers.

Councillor Jane Urquhart said: "The comments and objections that we received have been very valuable and have helped shape the outcome. I have personally met with the city centre church group and we have had a productive on-going dialogue. A number of measures have been agreed to help alleviate their concerns and we have come up with helpful solutions for each church."

Measures introduced to support churches include discounted parking in multi-story car parks and a reduced tariff for on-street parking for congregations of churches which are not located near car parks.
