Man says he was abused by therapist working for Chicago archdiocese

The Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago is being sued by a man who alleges he was sexually abused as a child by a therapist working in a church counseling center.

In the negligence lawsuit filed in Cook County Circuit Court, the man alleges the abuse occurred between 1977 and 1983 at the hands of therapist with the Catholic Family Consultation Service.

The lawsuit claims the church ignored the therapist's actions.

The therapist, who was not a priest, worked in the counseling center from 1969 to 1985 and had been accused, but never convicted, of abusing children.

Jamie M. Trapp, attorney for the plaintiff, says he believes the therapist is now dead.

A spokeswoman for the archdiocese says officials haven't seen the lawsuit and couldn't comment.
