Group wants reform of ‘corrupt hierarchy’ of Catholic Church

A group of lay Catholics have today re-launched a campaign which hopes to campaign against what it says is a corrupt church hierarchy that is way out of touch.

The ‘We Are Church Ireland’ group is being re-launched under the theme of ‘Holy Disobedience’.

It hopes to get support from Catholics around the country who are disillusioned with the totalitarian stance of the Pope in particular.

The movement was founded in Austria in 1995 and has gained millions of supporters in over 30 countries.

It has the view to reform the Church.

Brendan Butler is spokesperson for the group.

He says the lay people of the church have to stand together as the religious have no voice.
