First women bishops could be ordained in three years time

The Anglican Church will have its first female bishops by 2014.

This is according to a report by British newspaper, “The Independent” which published the results of a survey carried out over the past two months in 44 English dioceses.

The results of the vote showed that only two dioceses, London and Chichester are against the ordination of women bishops.

Last summer, the Anglican Synod took a difficult decision and approved this change.

In order for it to be implemented and become law, the Synod will need to approve the decision once more next year, and the Parliament will also need to cast a favourable vote.

Following this time frame, the first female bishop should be consecrated in three years time.
