Anglicans: Williams believes the Pope did not hinder the dialogue

The Ordinariate formed by Benedict XVI to allow Anglican communities that wish to rejoin the Catholic Church to maintain their traditions, both from a liturgical standpoint and a discipline standpoint (including married pastors) “did not cause any difficulty to the ecumenical dialogue.”

This is the opinion expressed by the Anglican Primate, Rowan Williams, in a statement divulged by the Religious Information Service on occasion of the meeting organized by the “Focolare” movement in London, which counted 31 Bishops from 15 different Churches.

The Anglican Primate explained that “there is a relationship of true cooperation with Catholic Archbishop Nichols, in London.”

We always try to participate to the major conventions and public events together. In fact, the Ordinariate, had no effect on our friendship”.

Concerning the “Anglican Communion Covenant”, the covenant that the various Anglican Churches would have to approve as a new communion method, Dr. Williams stated that “it should allow every Church to follow the same method of discernment to redeem controversial situations.”
