SA Priest Named Auxiliary Bishop Of Detroit

Pope Benedict XVI has named a priest of the Archdiocese of San Antonio, Father Arturo Cepeda, to serve as auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Detroit.

The announcement came from the Vatican early Monday morning.

The Bishop-designee currently is the rector of Assumption Seminary in San Antonio.

According to the Archdiocese, upon his ordination, the 41-year-old will become the youngest bishop in the United States, a distinction currently held by San Antonio's Auxiliary Bishop Oscar Cantu.

Cepeda will be ordained on May 5, along with two other men recently appointed auxiliary bishops in the Archdiocese of Detroit, Bishop-designates Monsignor Donald Hanchon and Father Michael Byrnes.
