Parramatta seeks St Mary as patron saint

The Bishop of Parramatta, Bishop Anthony Fisher OP, will petition the Holy See for permission to dedicate his diocese to the patronage of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop.

The Bishop made the announcement to a congregation who had gathered in St Patrick’s Church in Blacktown for the diocesan canonisation celebrations on October 31, the Parramatta diocesan magazine Outlook reported.

Bishop Fisher was the principal celebrant at the Mass, which was concelebrated by the vicar general, Fr Robert McGuckin, St Patrick’s parish priest, Fr Peter Confeggi, and priests of the diocese.

Music in the Mass featured hymns written by Australian composers specifically for Mary MacKillop.
