Church Protestor Reveals that She Got Hate Mail

A pensioner, whose call for a one-day boycott of Sunday Mass has received support across the world, has revealed she has been the victim of hate mail.

Jennifer Sleeman (80) from Clonakilty in County Cork, whose son is a monk at Glenstal Abbey in County Limerick, has been inundated with letters and emails backing her protest at the treatment of women in the Catholic Church.

Her campaign to highlight what she claims is, ‘the church's terrible attitude to women' has made such a global impact that simultaneous protests will take place in parishes in the US and Australia on the same day namely Sunday September 26.

Speaking this week, she claimed “I really can't believe how this whole thing has taken off since I announced it last month.”

However she revealed, “I have received some nasty letters since going public and I put them in a folder marked hate mail.” She added that a lot of women contacted her to say they supported what she was doing in principle but that they did not want to miss daily mass.

“I go to mass regularly myself so I completely understand their position.” she claimed.

Moreover she added that another option would be that people write a note in support of women or women priests and drop in into the collection plate on September 26. Another suggestion is that people wear a green armband on the day.

As for her own position Mrs Sleeman who is a convert to Catholicism from Presbyterianism still hasn't decided yet what she will do on September 26.
