Santa Rosa diocese sued by another alleged sex abuse victim of Irish priest

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Santa Rosa is facing a second lawsuit from a man claiming he was sexually abused as a child by an Irish priest.

The lawsuit filed Thursday in Sonoma County Superior Court says the Rev. Patrick McCabe abused the plaintiff almost weekly during most of 1983.

It claims that diocese officials knew McCabe had been accused of molesting children in his native Ireland before he was assigned to St. Bernard's Church in Eureka.

The plaintiff, who was 11 at the time, attended the school attached to St. Bernard's.

Another alleged McCabe victim sued the diocese last week.

McCabe's attorney and the diocese's spokeswoman didn't immediately return calls.

The priest currently is facing extradition to Ireland, where he is charged with sex abuse dating back to the 1970s.
