Former Tipperary seminary to host international reunion

A former seminary in Thurles is to hold a major reunion for all its past clerical alumni next week.

Saint Patrick's College in Thurles, County Tipperary, will welcome visitors from all over the world on Tuesday next as it hosts its international reunion for past students.

The reunion, which starts on the August 10, is held every five years and around 100 alumni are expected to attend the event.

Speaking this week College President Fr Tom Fogarty said, “It is a big event for the college and alumni as it gives them the opportunity to gather where they spent six years training. They can meet old friends and reminisce about their days in the seminary and about their work as priests.”

He added, “For the past six years, we have been a college of education, training students to become secondary school teachers in religion, Irish and Business Studies, but we are keen to keep in contact with alumni as they have helped Saint Patrick's College build up an excellent reputation around the world.”

A special mass to celebrate the occasion will be held in the Cathedral of The Assumption in Thurles on Thursday August 12.

The chief celebrant at the mass will be the Archbishop of Cashel & Emly Dr Dermot Clifford.

Fr Eugene Baker will deliver the homily at the mass.
