Arrangements confirmed for Bishop of Killaloe's ordination

The diocese of Killaloe has released some of the arrangements that have been put in place for the ordination of Fr Kieran O'Reilly as the new Bishop of Killaloe later this month.

Fr O'Reilly will succeed Bishop Willie Walsh on August 29 when he is ordained Bishop at Ennis's Pro Cathedral.

Speaking this week Feakle based priest Fr Brendan Quinlivan, spokesperson for the diocese, confirmed that the headmaster of the Benedictine-run Glenstal Abbey in Murroe in County Limerick Brother Martin Browne will sing at the ordination Mass.

People from the Diocese of Killaloe wishing to get tickets for the ordination of Fr Kieran O'Reilly as the new Bishop of the Diocese may still be able to do so it was confirmed this week.

A second allocation of tickets may be issued to the 59 parishes of the Killaloe Diocese for those wishing to attend the ordination.

Fr Quinlivan confirmed that to date 650 tickets have been issued to parishes for the ordination, based on their size.
He said that each parish adopted a different method when it came to allocating tickets, with some parishes holding a draw, others allocating them to parish council representatives or others were using a combination of both methods.

He said that a second round of ticket allocations made take place next week when guests confirm their attendance

It is expected that Fr O'Reilly could have between 200 - 300 guests at the ordination made up of family and friends as well as members of the Society of the African Missions of which he is a member.

Fr Quinlivan said that President, Mary McAleese has indicated that she will be unable to attend while Taoiseach Brian Cowen, who has been invited, has yet to respond to his invitation.

Fr Quinlivan also confirmed that the Catholic Primate of All Ireland Dr Seán Brady will be the chief celebrant at the ordination and will be assisted by the retiring Bishop Walsh.

It has also been confirmed that Sr Gabriel Murphy who is based at the Poor Clare convent is to make the vestments for the Bishop-elect while at the Mass, Fr O'Reilly is to use a Bishop's Crozier dating back to 1869 from the Clare County Museum.

The President Mrs Mary McAleese has already confirmed that she will not attend on the day while An Taoiseach Brian Cowen TD has yet to respond to his invitation.
