Diocese of Killaloe reveals August date for Bishop's ordination

The Diocese of Killaloe has confirmed an August date for the ordination of their new Bishop.

In a statement this week the Diocese confirmed that Fr Kieran O'Reilly (pictured) would be ordained bishop in the Cathedral of Saint Peter and Paul's in Ennis on Sunday August 29.

While details of the ordination ceremony are not completely finalised it has been confirmed that Cardinal Seán Brady will perform the ordination and will be assisted by the retiring Dr Willie Walsh as well a Bishop from Fr O'Reilly's own order namely the Society of the African Missions (SMA).

According to Diocesan spokesperson Fr Brendan Quinlivan, Fr O'Reilly will confirm the final ordination details when he hosts a press conference in the Chapter Rooms of Ennis Cathedral at 10:30 am on Wednesday, June 16.

Fr Quinlivan also confirmed that the 100 priests currently working in the diocese of Killaloe would be invited to the ceremony as well as the country's 26 Bishops.

It is also expected that a number of members of the SMA order will attend.

It is also expected that Fr O'Reilly will set up a liturgical committee to deal with the ordination ceremony.

Ennis cathedral currently seats just over 1,400 people and while the attendance at the ceremony may have to be by invite only, Fr Quinlivan confirmed that at least four to five representatives of each of the diocese's 59 parishes would attend.
