Confusion continues on plans for Pope's visit to Britain, Newman beatification

Church officials in England have denied reports that the beatification of Cardinal John Henry Newman could be rescheduled.

Pope Benedict XVI is due to preside at the beatification ceremony during an outdoor Mass at Coventry in September.

But organizational troubles with the papal trip have given rise to rumors that the beatification could take place in Birmingham, at a site that would not accommodate as many people.

A spokesman for the Birmingham archdiocese has denied those reports.

Still, Damian Thompson of the Daily Telegraph reports that tour organizers are not yet selling tickets for the Coventry, explaining that the beatification site has not been confirmed.
