Sofia with a new centre and a new symbol

A scale model of an Eastern Orthodox cathedral, a synagogue, a catholic church and a mosque, will be built on a patch of 100 sq m in central Sofia, the Bulgarian news agency (BTA) reported.

The model will be erected outside central department store TZUM in Sofia across from Sheraton Hotel.

But the actual model will be perched across from the presidency, the BTA report said.

According to the report, the model will serve as the new symbol of Sofia.

The blueprint for the scale model was presented in Sofia on May 3 in the presence of mayor Yordanka Fandakova and chief architect Peter Dikov.

The designers of the "diorama" are Sunni Sunninski and Stefani Racheva.

The model will be placed under a glass canopy.

The area will become "the new centre of Sofia with its display of a restored Roman street," BTA said.
