Polish nun’s great act of bravery

The act of bravery was named by the Polish Catholic Church when praising a nun who obtained and brought to Poland a piece of the downed plane that buried Polish President Lech Kaczynski.

Popular Polish internet portal onet.pl reports, quoting the Polish Press Agency, about nun’s great act of bravery she showed by bringing a piece of metal from the crashed plane that killed Polish President, Lech Kaczynski and other high rank state officials 3 weeks ago.

The nun brought a piece of the crashed plane’s wing to the Polish Catholics holy shrine of Jasna Gora in Czestochowa.

During the Sunday service, April 25, the friar of the shrine, father Majewski, announced that the piece of metal will be embedded into the Holy Mother’s dress.

Father Majewski said:
“Our Holy Mother, we ask you to kindly accept this piece of metal that we are bringing to your feet that used to be a piece of the plane that crashed at Smolensk. Today, this small and silent witness of the great tragedy has reached Jasna Gora from the people of Russia. Along with this cold and silent piece of metal, please accept our care for our homeland which now we are giving to you with our trusted prayers. The piece of metal that fell along with the President of Poland and other officials heading for Katyn, near Smolensk on April 10th, will be embedded in your new dress of thankfulness, love, struggle and hope of Polish nation for ever."
The mass was performed at 9:30 AM on Jasna Gora shrine in Czestochowa and broadcasted by Polish Catholic television “Trwam”.

The Holy Shrine’s Press Office confirmed father’s Majewski’s words who also said that the piece of metal was an act of an extreme bravery of the nun who, while being driven away by the Russian soldiers securing the plane’s crash site, was still able to get that piece of metal.

Polish Press Agency demanded explanation from the Holy Shrine’s Press Office about how the piece of metal came to Jasna Gora and why it was important to embed it into the Holy Mother’s dress but the father Majewski was not available for comments at press time.

The new Holy Mother’s dress will decorate the shrine’s Holy Mother’s image and is now being designed by a Polish jewelery designer, Mariusz Drapikowski who specializes in amber jewellery.

The decoration of the dress will include pieces of meteorites and gemstones.
