Wenski takes over from Favalora in Miami

Pope Benedict has accepted the resignation of Miami Archbishop John Favalora and named Orlando Bishop Thomas Wenski to replace him.

Archbishop Favalora turns 75 in December, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Replacing him is Bishop Thomas Wenski of Orlando. Wenski speaks English, Spanish and Creole; the Miami archdiocese has a large Cuban and Haitian community.

Pope Benedict also appointed Chicago Auxiliary Bishop Thomas J. Paprockias bishop of Springfield in Illinois.
