NSW bishop hopes for "amicable settlement" with abuse victims

Maitland-Newcastle Bishop Michael Malone said the Church hopes to negotiate an amicable settlement with abuse victims of a Hunter Valley priest, once the court has dealt with the perpetrator.

Police allege the priest molested nearly 40 men, and 27 of them are seeking compensation, said the ABC.

Bishop Malone was quoted as cited saying that negotiations could begin once a court decision is reached, which the report said has been adjourned to next month.

He added that "hopefully we'll be able to handle (negotiations) with wisdom in trying to reach an amicable solution."
