Keeping tabs on Mary MacKillop miracles

Every day The Sisters of St Joseph sift through letters, emails and phone calls from people around the world who claim "miracles" through the intercession of Mary MacKillop.

It is a full-time job for three of the sisters to collate the correspondence and reply to each person who writes, The Daily Telegraph reports.

But although there may be "miracles" contained within the folder and the filing cabinets where the compiled books are archived, no more will be considered.

"The church only requires two miracles to be proven and we have that now," pastoral care co-ordinator Sister Pat Hales said.

In the past year alone, Sister Pat estimated at least 100 people had contacted them believing to have been part of a miracle.

Few cases make it further than the compilation, given the Church's stringent process for verifying a miracle.

As part of the canonisation process, a person's popularity and appeal is carefully considered, and the letters and stories do confirm Mary's popularity among the people, the report adds.
