Galway prelate stays silent after clerical meeting

BISHOP of Galway Dr Martin Drennan met his priests at St Mary's College in Galway city yesterday to discuss child protection measures in the diocese.

The bishop, who insisted he did nothing wrong in the wake of the publication of the Murphy report, did not comment on the fallout from the cover-up of clerical child sex abuse.

Diocesan communications manager Fr Sean McHugh said afterwards that the bishop would not be making any statement and it was not planned to make any public comment on his position.

"Contrary to what was reported, it was not an emergency meeting," said Fr McHugh.
