BISHOP DRENNAN FACING FURTHER CALLS TO RESIGN

The Bishop of Galway Martin Drennan is facing further calls to resign.

He attended a meeting of the country's bishops in Maynooth Friday afternoon ahead of a meeting in Rome with the Pope next month.

All the bishops were summoned to Rome by Pope Benedict XVI to discuss the Murphy Report into the handling of clerical sexual abuse in the Dublin Archdiocese.

Bishop Drennan says he wasn't criticised in the report and is refusing to resign.

Catholic social activist Brendan Butler has called a protest in Maynooth at the college's main gate this lunchtime to demand Bishop Drennan's resignation.
