Baby left in Carlow Cathedral

Gardaí are appealing for a couple to contact them after a baby boy was left in the cathedral in Carlow town.

The baby boy was left in the porch of the cathedral this afternoon around 2.20pm.

It is understood a person visiting the cathedral heard a couple crying as they left the porch area.

The baby boy - thought to be about seven months old - was left in a buggy in the porch, with a note attached to the buggy giving his first and surname.

Gardaí say the baby is in good health and appears to have been very well looked after.

The couple who left the baby there have not yet been located and gardaí say they want them to contact them as they are concerned for their well being.

They said they have also been in touch with the authorities at a ports and airports and with the police in England as they believe there may be a connection there.
