Minister O'Keeffe supports Catholic Church ethos

MINISTER Batt O'Keeffe TD, Minister for Education and Science has given his full support to the Catholic Church's role and ethos in the Irish education system.

Minister O'Keeffe was speaking on Wednesday, (December 16) at the launch of the new autism unit in Scoil Mhuire in Abbeyleix, Co. Laois.

"The Catholic Church established an ethos and that ethos should be maintained in the future. The Catholic Church has played an important and outstanding role in schools," he said.

He emphasied the positive effect the Catholic Church has had on the Irish education system over the past number of years.

The new autism unit is the first of its kind in the county and will save children travelling to Kildare and Offaly to receive the care they need.

The state of the art unit will be providing facilities for children from Abbeyleix and around the county.
