New priest takes over as head of Catholic Church in Azerbaijan

Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Father Vladimir Fekete to head the Catholic mission in Baku.

The papal nuncio in the Caucasus, Claudio Gugerotti, attended Fr Vladimir's installation at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Baku on 8 November.

Fr Vladimir Fekete's appointment as ecclesiastical superior of the "sui iuris" mission to Baku was reported by the Vatican on 5 November.

Fr Vladimir is a member of the Order of the Salesians of Don Bosco, as are all the priests at present in Baku.

He was born in Bratislava in 1955 and speaks Slovak, Russian, Polish and Italian.
