Vatican Visitor Named for Aid to the Church in Need

The Congregation for Clergy announced that a visitation of the international charity Aid to the Church in Need will begin in December.

The congregation is responding to a request from ACN for advice on certain organizational issues under canon law, the charity announced last Thursday in Rome.

Auxiliary Bishop Manfred Grothe of Paderborn, Germany, will do the visitation.

ACN had appealed to the Vatican in June for help with unresolved issues in its canonical statutes relating to its organization and structure.

The charity's president, Chilean Father Joaquin Alliende, was appointed in 2008 with the task of revising the organization's statutes in line with the guidelines of its founder, Father Werenfried van Straaten.

The charity is seeking to better define, in light of the changes in society, its functions and goals.

Since 1984, Aid to the Church in Need has held the status of a "Public Association of Pontifical Right" and thus acts in the name of the Church.
