Louth parish priest left distressed after robbery

A County Louth parish priest was left shocked and distressed after his home was robbed and ransacked in an attack last weekend.

“It was a terrible experience. A violation of my own private space. I am still very upset,” stated Fr Eamon Treanor.

In an interview with the Argus newspaper he said, “I have put increased security measures in place as a result of the experience. They stole a sum of money from the house and I think there may be other things missing because I am only checking today. There wasn't anything relating to the church stolen,” he said.

The scene of devastation was discovered by Fr Treanor when he returned to Kilsaran Parochial House on last Sunday evening. Callous thieves watched the parish priest leave at noon and by the time he returned at 7:00pm, they had stolen a substantial sum of money and wrecked his home.

The robbers gained access through a side door according to the stunned priest. Fr Treanor wasn't even able to start clearing up until the Garda forensic people had finished, which was two days after the robbery.

“I have someone to help me get the place sorted but we have to wait for the Gardaí to finish,” he added. He did not notice anything strange as he was coming up the driveway but he is hoping that perhaps other passers-by may have noticed something or someone acting strangely near the house.

Gardaí in Dundalk are continuing to investigate the incident.
