Police charge fake priest with hotel fraud

Italian police are searching for a German man who allegedly masqueraded as a priest with staying at hotel outside Rome for more than a month without paying the bill.

The hotel, located in the Papal summer resort of Castel Gandolfo, received the supposedly high-ranking priest and provided him with lodging and board, only for him to suddenly dissapear without paying.

The 34-year-old man deceived everyone by wearing religious clothing, his strong German inflection and telling everyone he was the representative of the Teutonic Order from the convent of Lana, located in the northern Italian province of Bolzano, near Austria.

The man, who allegedly lives in Bolzano, was reported to Italian police.

He is facing charges with unlawful seizure of title and unlawful insolvency.
