Pro-life group goes into liquidation

One of Youth Defence's affiliate organisations has gone into liquidation.

The Mother and Child Campaign, based in Dublin, voluntarily wound itself up according to documents lodged with the Companies Registration Office.

The group was established in the 1990s and campaigned against the 2002 pro-life referendum; the referendum was supported by the Church and mainstream pro-life groups.

Accounts

The last company accounts filed for the organisation in 2005 showed it received an interest-free loan of €31,352 from Youth Defence, with whom it shared an address at 60a Capel Street, Dublin.

The Capel Street premises is home to a number of Youth Defence spin-off organisations including the anti-EU group Cóir, Family First, TruthTV and the now defunct Irish Family Press newspaper.

Directors

The organisation's directors are listed as Úna Nic Mhathúna and Maria McCluskey.

Mrs Nic Mhathúna has been a prominent campaigner on a range of issues going back to the 1980s.

Accounts for the organisation show that just €100 was left in a bank account when the business was wound up.
