New Appointments to Secretariat of State

As Pope Benedict XVI continues his vacation in Les Combes Northern Italy, the Holy See today issued a series of postings and appointments approved by the Pope Prior to his departure.

The Holy Father has appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Greece Monsignor Luigi Gatti, Titular Archbishop of St. Just, until now the Apostolic Nuncio in Lebanon.

Pope Benedict has appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Lebanon, the Reverend Monsignor Gabriele Giordano Caccia, Assessor for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State, at the same time raising him to the dignity of Archbishop.

The Holy Father has appointed Assessor for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State Monsignor Peter Brian Wells, Counsellor at Nunciature Section for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State.
Msgr. Wells is a native of Tulsa in the United States.

Pope Benedict has appointed the Secretary General of the Governorate of Vatican City State Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, Titular Nuncio and Apostolic Delegate to date for the Pontifical Representations.

Finally Pope Benedict appointed Archbishop of Spoleto-Norcia (Italy) Monsignor Renato Boccardo, until Secretary General of the Governorate of Vatican City State.
