Protester Unleashes Verbal Attack at Papal Visit in Israel

The pope had an unpleasant experience toward the end of his first day in Israel.

He was taking part in an interfaith forum when an angry Muslim cleric suddenly rushed up to the dais, grabbed a microphone and unleashed a scathing verbal attack on Israel and its policies.

The protester, an Israeli citizen, left the hall immediately after his outburst and the pontiff did likewise.

Pope Benedict XVI was displeased by the diatribe as were his hosts who included Israeli Jewish and Christian clergy.
