The personal assistant to Cardinal Seán Brady has said those who ran the industrial school system had to take responsibility for child abuse. Fr Timothy Bartlett said the relevant members of the Conference of Religious in Ireland who ran the schools had to pay more towards the State's redress scheme.
Fr Bartlett was speaking on Radio Ulster's Sunday Sequence programme.
He also said the Catholic Church had to establish why such evil was inflicted upon the victims.
