Mexican police say body may be missing US priest's

Mexican police are trying to determine if a body is that of a U.S. priest reported missing in the northern border city of Nuevo Laredo.

Tamaulipas state police say relatives of the Rev. Jesse Euresti have been asked to identify the body.

Police have not said when or where the corpse was found.

The 69-year-old Euresti is pastor of Cristo Rey Catholic Church in Austin, Texas.

A relative reported him missing after he failed to return to Texas from Mexico.

Blood stains and a bloody knife were found in his Mexican residence.

Police said Sunday that a man was detained in the case but gave no further details.

Diocese of Austin officials say Euresti had planned to retire in Nuevo Laredo.
