Dublin Archdiocese reaches out to youth

The Archdiocese of Dublin reached out to its young people last week with two innovative projects.

In an initiative prompted by the diocese as part of the Year of Evangelisation, the Emmanuel School of Mission (ESM) linked up with youngsters across the south Dublin parishes of St Aengus, St Martin's and St Dominic's to employ new methods to promote the Faith to young people.

The link-up saw an international group of ESM members interact with young people in school and church settings to discuss, consider and debate the place of religion in their lives.

''We have to find new ways of reaching young people,'' ESM's Clemens von Ow told The Irish Catholic. Speaking of the warm reception offered by young parishioners, von Ow agreed that ''people have a desire for mission''.

He explained that the week-long mission was being viewed as a pilot programme for an intended diocese-wide drive later.

Meanwhile, the north Dublin parish of Whitehall witnessed the official launch of its new Parish Youth Council last Sunday, a first for the archdiocese.

Comprising five young World Youth Day pilgrims, the new council has been established with the aims of giving a voice to young faithful in the parish and beyond.
