Pope Benedict XVI’s first visit to Dominican Republic set for 2011

Pope Benedict XVI confirmed Wednesday that his first pastoral visit to the Dominican Republic since his coronation in 2005 will be in 2011.

His predecessor, John Paul II, visited the country three times; 1979, 1984 and 1992.

The Pontiff made the announcement during a private audience granted to Foreign Relations minister Carlos Morales, in the Holy See, from where he sent a greeting to the Dominican people and to president Leonel Fernandez.
