A challenging time for faith - bishop

A CATHOLIC bishop Sunday described "the betrayal of trust and the wounding of many" as one of the central challenges to faith.

The Bishop of Meath Dr Michael Smith said that "healing these hurts must continue to be at the heart of the machine of the church and of all of us".

Speaking at a celebration of his silver jubilee as a bishop, he said it was "a challenging time for faith".

Meath TD and Transport Minister Noel Dempsey was among the congregation that filled Mullingar Cathedral to overflowing to celebrate the first silver jubilee in the diocese in over 100 years. Commandant Mick Treacy represented the Taoiseach.

Dr Smith said that in the context of Irish history, "the problems we now face are minor compared to those some of those who went before us faced". +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
