Pope to visit Czech Republic in September

The Czech presidential office says Pope Benedict XVI has accepted President Vaclav Klaus' invitation to visit the Czech Republic.

The office says in a statement Klaus received this week a personal letter from Benedict in which the pope thanked for his invitation and confirmed he would travel to the Czech Republic at the end of September.

Details of the visit, which should take two or three days, are still being negotiated, the statement said.

It will be Benedict's first visit to the country.

The Vatican does not confirm foreign travels until much closer to their dates.
