Catholic Bishops to hold crisis meeting

Catholic Bishops are to hold a crisis meeting today (Friday) to discuss the fall-out from the Bishop of Cloyne's handling of clerical child sexual abuse allegations in his diocese.

The "Irish Catholic" newspaper says the meeting has been called as bishops try to find a coordinated response to the current crisis of confidence in Church child protection policies.

The newspaper says Cardinal Sean Brady is known to have had lengthy discussions with the Vatican, who have asked him to take immediate action.

The meeting will take place in Maynooth.
