Christian leaders of Ukraine address politicians on political crisis

In an address approved at a meeting on 7 October 2008, leaders of Ukraine’s Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant churches gave their opinion on the problem of worsening political conflicts in the country and possible ways to resolve the problems.

The Christian leaders noted that in Ukraine’s history there are a number of sad examples when Ukraine itself was ruined by a fight for power, its statehood was lost as its enemies took advantage of this internal weakness. The leaders stated that these mistakes should not be repeated.

The leaders called politicians and government activists to find ways to cooperate for the good of the country. They also called Ukrainians to mutual understanding to avoid armed conflicts, to work for the good of the country, and they warned the people about despair and disillusionment.

The text was signed by leaders of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan and Moscow patriarchates, Ukrainian Greek and Roman Catholic churches, and the Baptist, Pentecostal, Evangelical, and Lutheran churches.
