Catholic priest dares the Vatican on 1994 Rwandan genocide

A catholic priest, Reverend Father Jean Ndorimana on Thursday challenged the Vatican to establish the truth about the church’s role in 1994 genocide in Rwanda and continued abuse of office by some bishops.

The retired Reverend Father Ndorimana made the statement in Kigali, when he presented his new and third book ‘de la region des grands lacs au Vatican, Intrigues, scandales et ideologie du genocide sien de la hierarchie catholique."

In the more than 100 pages of the book, the priest give a detailed account making allegations on how the church’s leadership played an active role in Rwanda’s politics right from the colonial times, during independence and subsequent killings of the Tutsi up to 1994, in which more than one million people were killed in 100 days.

He challenged the Vatican to make a public apology not only to Rwandans but to the whole world because it had a moral responsibility in which more than a half of those killed died in churches where they had taken refugee.

A former Vicar General of Cyangugu diocese (Western province) now in charity work, Ndorimana said that the church had a role in the genocide when priests killed fellow priests and seminarians killed fellow seminarians.
