Priests launch singing career

Three Catholic priests who signed up to a multi-million pound global recording deal have launched their new singing career at a cathedral in Northern Ireland.

Father Eugene O'Hagan, 48, his brother Martin, 45, and their old schoolfriend Father David Delargy, 44, will release a debut album in November under the name The Priests, which will include parts of the Latin Mass, the Catholic hymns 'Ave Maria' and 'Panis Angelicus', as well as classical Irish songs in an hour-long concert at St Patrick's Cathedral in Armagh city.

“The concert was one of the most moving of my life. It was just fantastic to receive such a reception from a wonderfully appreciative audience," Father Eugene O'Hagan said after recording the songs.

Now, the three Irish priests are stars after signing a €1.25m record deal.

Representatives of all religious denominations were among the audience, and record bosses at Sony BMG, their recording label, believe the clerical trio is poised to become a global hit, selling millions of albums around the world.

Nick Raphael of Sony BMG's Epic record label said: "They have the potential to become one of the world's biggest musical acts because what they do is compelling and has historical relevance."

This album is planned to be released in the Ireland and United Kingdom at the same time as it goes out to more than 30 countries around the world, including most of Europe, the USA, South America and the Philippines.
