Spouses launch parallel conference in Canterbury

The wife of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Jane Williams, has welcomed nearly 550 spouses of the bishops who are participating in the Lambeth Conference to a simultaneous Spouses’ Conference.

The conference will run for two weeks, parallel to Lambeth, and Mrs Williams welcomed the participants by thanking her international planning group who had been helping to create the conference.

Mrs Williams, herself a noted theologian, described the participants as “God’s gifts to each other”

During the plenary Mrs Williams also introduced the international president of the Mothers’ Union, Rosemary Kempsell, who spoke of the organisation.
