Daredevil priest's body is reported found

The body of a Roman Catholic priest, Father Adelir de Carli is believed to have been found in the Atlantic Ocean off the shore of Brazil.

Workers of the Brazilian oil company Petrobas discovered a body bearing clothing resembling that worn by Rev. De Carli when he disappeared on April 20 some 800 miles away at the port city of Paranaguá.

In April, Rev. De Carli lifted off from Paranaguá in a chair attached to 1,000 helium-filled balloons in an attempt to break a world record and to raise money for a rest-stop for truck drivers.

It is believed that De Carli rose to an altitude of some 18,000 feet.

High winds blew him off course and towards the ocean. When he was last heard from, he reported that he had run into difficulties.

Two days after his disappearance, a search party found a bundle of balloons, but no sign of Rev. de Carli.

An experienced skydiver, de Carli nonetheless was apparently unfamiliar with his navigational equipment and was not able to provide his coordinates while wafting above the sea before his disappearance.

The Brazilian navy called off its search on April 29.
