Papal Summer Marked by Youth Day, Pauline Year

Benedict XVI has several engagements planned for the upcoming months, most notably the journey to Australia for World Youth Day and the opening of the Pauline Jubilee Year.

The Vatican published today the Pope's schedule for May through August.

On Saturday, May 3, the Pope will recite the rosary in the Basilica of St. Mary Major.

On the feast of Pentecost, May 11, he will preside over Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's.

From May 17 to May 18, the Holy Father will make a pastoral visit to Savona and Genoa, Italy.

And on the feast of Corpus Christi, Thursday, May 22, he will preside over Mass at 7 p.m. in St. John Lateran and then process with the Blessed Sacrament to St. Mary Major.

In June, the Pontiff has another two-day pastoral visit scheduled. From the 14th to the 15th, he will go to Santa Maria di Leuca and Brindisi, Italy.

June 28 will be the solemn opening of the Pauline Jubilee Year, over which the Pope will preside with first vespers in St. Paul's Outside the Walls.

Then, on the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, June 29, he will preside over a 9:30 a.m. Mass, which will include the imposition of the pallium on metropolitan archbishops.

July will be marked by World Youth Day in Sydney. Benedict XVI departs for Australia on July 12 and returns July 21.

Finally, on Aug. 15, the solemnity of the Assumption, the Pope will preside over 8 a.m. Mass at the parish church of St. Thomas of Villanova in Castel Gandolfo.
