NYC Diocese Bares Pope's U.S. Visit Itinerary

The Archdiocese of New York has bared the tentative itinerary of Pope Benedict XVI when he visits the U.S. for the first time from April 15-20.

The itinerary says the Pope will arrive in Washington D.C.'s airport in the evening on April 15. The following day, he will celebrate his 81st birthday at a morning diplomatic reception at the White House. In the afternoon, he will meet the Bishops of the United States at the Basilica of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

On April 17, Pope Benedict XVI will celebrate a public Mass at the Washington Nationals Stadium in the morning. In the afternoon, he will meet with presidents of Catholic universities and diocesan heads of education at the Catholic University of America. This will be followed by a meeting with representatives of other religions at the John Paul II Cultural Center.

The Pope will leave for New York City in the morning of April 18 and speak before the United Nations General Assembly. In the afternoon, he will address the Ecumenical Persons at a the Church of Saint Joseph, in the Yorkville section of Manhattan.

The following day, the pope will mark and celebrate his third year of papacy with a Mass for priests, deacons and religious at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick. In the afternoon, he will meet disabled children, youth and seminarians at the St. Joseph's Seminary chapel and grounds.

The last day of the papal visit in the U.S. will see Pope Benedict XVI going to the Ground Zero at the World Trade Center Site in the morning. He will celebrate Mass at the Yankee Stadium in the afternoon before returning to Rome in the evening.
