Mottaki suggests formation of Iran-Vatican dialogue committee

Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki stated here on Wednesday that Tehran is prepared to establish a permanent Iran-Vatican dialogue committee.

Receiving a copy of the credentials of Vatican’s new ambassador to Tehran Archbishop Jean Paul Goble, Mottaki expressed hope that the mutual ties would expand.

The foreign minister also said that in the recent years divine religions have been insulted many times, and “this makes the task of religious leaders much heavier than before” and therefore they need to constantly consult one another.

“Iranians are interested in dialogue, logic, and believe in justice,” he noted, adding that the Iranian Muslims’ collaboration with religious minorities is exemplary throughout the history.

Vatican’s envoy also said that his government was prepared to set up a permanent dialogue committee with the Islamic Republic.

He asserted that Vatican’s officials are determined to strengthen ties with Iran.
